She wouldn't be gone long. Quick trip out to the Western Approach to set up the new fortress that the Inquisition has taken over with her team and a group of merchants and scouts that would be staying out there. She'd left very early in the morning, with a small ruffle of his hair as he lay half asleep in her bed. He continued to lay there for a few hours until the sun moved far enough across the sky that the light shone straight into his eyes.

Two weeks later and she was due back. By the time she actually returned it was getting dark. Cullen was sitting on the wall by the large gate pretending to read a book when he heard the sound of horses trotting across the bridge. The gate was raised and Aurae and her team sauntered through followed by a cart of resources they'd picked up on their travels. Cullen caught her eye and walked over to her. She swung her leg over the side of her horse and hopped down into his arms, motioning for someone else to tie the horse up.

"Welcome back." Cullen smiled at her and set her back down on the ground.

"Thanks. Miss me, much?"

"Only all the time," he replied "Some parts more than others" he smirked and put his hands around her waist, pulling her towards him. She stepped up onto her tiptoes and kissed him. Cullen's hands found their way slightly further south and he felt her smile through the kiss.

She broke apart from the him and took his hand, leading him up towards the castle. They walked together through the main hall and through into the first corridor leading to her room before Cullen decided that she was going to slowly and picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder and taking her the rest of the way.  He pushed open the door to her room and dropped her down in the centre of the room.

"Cullen..." she said quietly. He wrapped his arms around her again. Aurae rested her head on the soft plumage of his cloak like it was a pillow. "I've had a really long day"

"You're that tired?" Cullen laughed, her reply coming in the form of a large yawn. He sat her down on the bed, found her some nightwear from the drawer and helped her into it before stripping out of his own armour.

Aurae stood up and looked at Cullen, she still wasn't used to seeing him out of armour, but she did enjoy the smile that spread across his face every time they were together. They got into the bed and pulled the covers all the way up. Cullen huddled up behind her and nuzzled his face into the back of her neck, slightly grazing the tip of her ear.

"You're not too... disappointed, are you?" she whispered.

"Of course not, I'm just glad you're back."

"Cullen!"

"I'm working, Aurae"

"Buuuut..." she whined, slouching down into her chair as he gave her a stern look before returning to the multitude of notes and maps in front of him.

She'd been sitting here watching him work every night this week. Every book had been removed from his shelves and been deemed 'too boring' for her. She'd dusted and tidied the shelves, removed the cobwebs from his window and even made his bed for him, just for a chance to stay there with him.

Sometimes all there was to do was watch him work. Hurriedly writing down thoughts and then scrunching them up and throwing them into the bin beside his desk upon realising they wouldn't work. Moving tiny little models around the tiny little map, sometimes knocking them over and making a disgruntled noise. Once he even fell asleep and drooled all over the one set of notes that he'd been pleased with that night. A break was certainly needed, but how could Aurae make him take one?

wow imagine if i finished this it was really going places lmao.
